What do YOU listen to?
Intelligent people listen to different music. I am young and I am just beginning to gain exposure to good music that I'm absolutely in love with. I love everything from house to classic rock to indie and alternative to jazz, classical, blues and electronica. I have a few favourites in every genre, and know the words to at least 10 albums. It would be very difficult for me to list my favourite bands because I listen to different music to get me into different "moods" or even character, if you will. Everybody says I'm an "old soul", a twenty year old who listens to the Black Crowes and Beatles that formed before my time. I don't know how I come across music, but when I do, I'm very receptive to it.
My favourite movie soundtrack, however, I can tell you is Factory Girl's soundtrack. I love EVERY song on that album. I love the Vandellas and The Who and the Clash. I love Edie Sedgwick and Velvet Underground (although I know they are responsible for the death of Edie...partially) and I love Andy Warhol. That film is the epitome of my character, she's this naive, rich, beautiful, thin girl who has this reckless, fabulous lifestyle and it's so Hollywood but it's not cliche. She's not doing it for fame or tabloids, it's just who she was born to be. It's authentically Edie, and everything about the '60s is so fresh. I even smoke the same cigarettes as Edie (Viceroy).
Back to the music, haha. I'm always going off topic.
If you want to get yourself off the Justin Timberlake\Lady Gaga mainstream boat, here's some music you should pick up on:
Black Crowes, The Can, The Smiths, Bob Dylan, Grateful Dead, Velvet Underground, Beatles, Frank Zappa, Radiohead, Wilco, The Who, Rollingstones, John Coltrane, Howlin' Wolf, Kings of Leon, Apache Beat (the lead singer is Albanian...points for her!), Nirvana and Aerosmitih.
That's just music I like right now. It changes all the time. Some very famous bands have very good songs and some really unknown bands have amazing songs, it doesn't really matter. Good music is good music.
I want to know what songs YOU love and what bands\albums you listen to? There are thousands of different bands in so many different genres and music is really just such an important part of life. I love Zappa for his guitat play, Kings of Leon for that mesmerizing voice (delish) and Rollingstones for their quirky, truthful lyrics. I will be writing tons more on music and going more into depth, but it's an appetizer ;)
